The Interior Ministry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said that nine children were killed and four more were wounded after a gas tank exploded in the Lalpora district of eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, January 10, 2022.

The incident has reportedly taken place close to a school in the Biganana residence of the district.

Victims of the explosion are all students of the local Warsak primary school.

Earlier, a local patriarch Hukum Khan had told media that a student of the school wanted to sell old artillery that exploded.

Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry Engineer Izam denied the explosion of artillery in the district.
